We are certified by the American Camp Association in more than 300 standards of health and safety at our flagship location at the University of Washington. Since our start in 1997, there have been no instances or allegations of improper behavior by any member of our staff. No computer camp in the country can match our record of safety over the past 11 years.
Many ACA standards pertain to rustic camping and have to do with grounds maintenance, water systems, food service, fire safety, alarm systems, and other concerns every family would have about your typical camping facility.
College campus facilities are licensed by state authorities. Universities are on public water systems, cafeterias have regular health inspection visits, and buildings and fire plans are inspected by state governing bodies. Medical services and emergency response teams are only moments away, if not immediately available in state-of-the-art university medical centers.
There is still a powerful place for adherence to ACA standards in a program like ours. This has to do with a review of policies and procedures, training topics and priorities at all levels. Our standards go beyond basic requirements to include a comprehensive staff training program for all staff – from directors through counselors – covering emergency management plans, health care, and overall program management. Our staff-to-participant ratios are the lowest for a national program, all staff are trained in first aid and CPR, and each staff member has been through our rigorous screening system.
Working with more than 50 state and city regulation boards, as well as the standards of the ACA, Giant Campus has instilled best practices to use in all our programs coast to coast. Our policies and our training represent the highest standards of care and attention to your child's safety and well being.
