Our commitment to recruiting, training and retaining the finest technology experts Even though Cybercamps Academy teaching staff are parents, educators, and technology professionals, it is important to the quality of our program that every staff person participate in our live, in-person staff training sessions.
On average, more than 80 percent of our Academy Directors return to lead our Cybercamps Academy program. We are able to achieve this by offering a training program that equips these adults for success at Cybercamps Academy. It's important to note that all returning academy directors fully participate in each year's training program. No one sneaks in on last year's credentials, which is commonplace at many other computer camps.
Academy Director Training
Our Academy Directors (ADs) go through 10 days of training per year. They attend the national AD conference, a three-day event jam packed with seminars and training conducted by Cybercamps Academy National Director of Programs Kat Fitzgerald, as well as guest workshop hosts who are the top presenters in the field of youth recreation and education.
This development weekend is designed to further develop the skills of our already top-of-their-field educators and seasoned directors. In addition, new ADs are required to attend the National Boot Camp which brings them up to speed on all the program details, risk management, policies and procedures, and our very unique culture and style of learning.
In addition to our national training conference:
- ADs are current in CPR and First Aid training.
- ADs are required to participate in our on-going curriculum training program which includes online, self-study, and teleconference training, and “buddy-mentorship” for several months between the training conference and the start of Cybercamps Academy.
- ADs must attend the weekend Area Training and help to facilitate it along with other seasoned regional directors and trainers from our home office.
- ADs lead the on-site pre-program training at their academy location for four days prior to the start of Cybercamps Academy.
Staff Training
Upon beginning employment with Cybercamps Academy,
summer program staff complete seven total days of training in several phases:
- Staff are first given our comprehensive policy and procedure manual and access to our training Web site where they are guided through a self-paced review of materials.
- Staff are given access to our curriculum and begin to study and practice each project.
- Staff are tested on the projects and have group meetings to discuss challenges that participants could have with each project.
- Staff become CPR and First Aid certified.
- Staff attend a weekend Area Training where they learn about the Cybercamps Academy program and how we do things.
- Staff attend a four-day, pre-program training where they learn all about their campus, set up the procedures for their program (standard schedules and emergency procedures), and start to get ready by testing everything and preparing for participants to arrive.
- Staff receive on-going training to help groom their skills and grow their abilities.
